Rhea Spainhower

January 17, 1943 — July 5, 2024

Rhea Spainhower, 81, passed away on July 5, 2024, in Sandy, Utah. Rhea was born on January 17, 1943, to Wesley Benair and Rhea LaVern Anderson Spainhower.

Rhea retired from the telephone company in 1989; and while she was working, was an active member of the local Communications Workers of America and served as their secretary. After Rhea's retirement, she had many interests including teaching advanced Wilton cake decorating, baking, crocheting, cross stitching, plastic canvas, and putting together many photo albums. She was an expert candy maker and indulged her family with hand-dipped chocolates every Christmas.

Rhea studied the strategy of Bridge and enjoyed playing this game with long-time friends and with members of the Salt Lake Senior Center. She loved Masterpiece Theater and made sure to contribute to PBS annually. She also enjoyed season tickets to many local theaters and watching basketball and football--she was known to change her affinity for teams based on the character of the players and coaches.

Rhea remained mentally sharp, witty and full of kindness toward others. She endured the impacts of aging with patience and grace; and will be remembered for her talents, positive disposition, beauty and the tender care she provided to her sweet pets.

Rhea is preceded in death by her parents and sister Kaye Spainhower Brown, Sandy Utah.

She is survived by her sister Gayle Spainhower Baldwin, Renton WA; sister Ann Spainhower (Richard Tafoya), Centennial CO; brother Wesley Brent Spainhower (Nancy), Edmond OK; nephew Jerone Dennis Richards who Rhea felt was more like a brother (Debbie), Draper UT; many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; and Lola, her beloved Shih Tzu.

Family and friends are invited to gather to express condolences at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery on Saturday, July 13 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow.
