Richard Alvey Fender, born on February 17, 1947, in Kearns, Utah, passed away on June 15, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a long battle with COPD.
Richard dedicated approximately 30 years of his life to the United States Postal Service, where he became known for his exceptional typing speed. He also proudly served in the United States Army, reflecting his commitment to service and community.
His outgoing nature was complemented by a touch of shyness, making him a figure of warmth and familiarity in his neighborhood—often taking on a fatherly role for several local children. Richard's affable personality and infectious enthusiasm for life made him a cherished friend and family member.
Richard had a variety of interests, including golfing, tennis, and playing pool. His passion for sports ensured that he lived an active lifestyle, enjoying the camaraderie and competition that came with it. He also loved to cruise in his Corvette, creating lasting memories and joy for himself and those around him, especially during the holidays when he delighted in spoiling his family.
Among those who remember Richard fondly are his loving sister Luanne Marvidakis, along with his many nieces and nephews: Michelle (Henry), Michael, Nick, Mandy, James (Jamie), Rick (Amanda), and Sara. He leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
Richard is preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Helen Fender, as well as his parents, Julian and Vila Fender, and his brothers Brent and Darryl Fender. He is also preceded in death by his niece-in-law Christy Fender, among many others.
Friends and family are invited to honor Richard's memory on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Memorial Redwood Mortuary: 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
Richard will be forever remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated worker, and a compassionate individual who enriched the lives of those around him.
