Robert Amos Bailey

November 30, 1925 — November 6, 2009

Robert Amos Bailey (Sweet Old Bob) - Born 11/30/1925, passed away 11/6/2009.

He is survived by his wife, Betty W. Bailey, daughters Sue (Steve) Feil and Marylu (Dave) Langford, sons Robert, Michael, Bryan (Angelica) and Douglas (Sue) Bailey, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and his sister Elinor (Joseph) Lawrence. He was a loving husband, father and "Candy Grandpa".

He graduated from Granite High School where he was a member of the marching band along with his cousin and bosom buddy, Margret Barton.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radioman in the Pacific on Admiral Nimitz's staff, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Betty Wallin on May 8, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past spring. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He worked for Continental Bank for 33 years, retiring in 1988 as vice president. He was proud of the fact that he never made a bad loan during his career. He was respected by his many customers and had the reputation of being an honest banker. Even though he only graduated from high school, he taught Mortgage Lending classes at both the University of Utah and BYU.

Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling with his wife, family and friends. After retiring, Bob and Betty traveled the world on cruises with their lifelong friends the Fowlers and Andersons.

He was always generous to his family and friends and to those in need. The neighborhood children could always get a cold Otter Pop from Bob's garage on a hot day. He would always ask "How many this time?" and would smile when he heard the number of children. Neighbors and widows could count on a nice bottle of his famous homemade soups all year long.

His wisdom and humor will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester E. Bailey and Ella Bailey; brother, Chester Bailey, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Gwenneth Bailey.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Canyon Rim Second Ward, 3000 South Grace Street (3100 E), Salt Lake City, Utah where friends may call from 9:30 a
