Robert Lee Bonnell, 91, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, in Syracuse, Utah. He was born April 15, 1935 in Logan, Utah, to Mary Peterson and Harry Russell Bonnell.

He attended the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind in Ogden, Utah, where he met his beloved wife, Roberta Darlene Green. They were married July 25, 1956, and made their home in Salt Lake City where they raised their 2 children, Cindy and Larry.

He worked as a printer at Deseret Press for more than 30 years. He enjoyed playing basketball in the Deaf Basketball League, and his love of woodworking later led him to be a cabinet maker for Wasatch Cabinets.

Bobby and Darlene served a mission together in New York, where he served as president of the Bronx Deaf Branch. He also served as Bishop in the Salt Lake Valley Deaf Ward and an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple. 

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Lou Bess, 9 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and his sister, Ruth Seaver. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Larry Dean Bonnell; grandson, Nicholas J Moses; great granddaughter, Savanna Riker; Brothers Roy Fereday, Harry Bonnell, Rudy Bonnell; Sister, Marjorie McNeil

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers at Beehive Homes in Syracuse for the loving and compassionate care they provided over the past several years.

Graveside services will be held Monday, August 3, 2026, at 1:00 at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Cottonwood Heights. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m.
