Robert “Bob” David Butterfield
Bob was born on January 6, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marvin Kemp Butterfield and Mary Lousie Corbett. Bob was raised in South Salt Lake and he graduated from Granite High School where he was the Class Historian, designing their 1957 yearbook.
He married Sharon Leone Leonard ("His Child Bride") on May 16th, 1957. He was a "self-made man." Bob had a talent to grow beautiful plants. From that skill he built his gardening business into Butterfield Gardens located in Sandy, Utah. In the green houses he grew tropical plants, ground covers, and bedding plants. Bob's business expanded to boulders, rocks and retaining walls that can be found across the Wasatch Front. One of his favorite projects was placing boulders on the campus of University of Utah for the new Geology Building. Bob's skill was unmatched and he said, "Even the rocks testify of Jesus Christ."
Bob said, "If you take care of the Lord, then the Lord takes care of you." He was a shining example of serving the Lord by being a Veil Worker at the Jordan River Temple for twenty-seven years.
Bob and Sherrie were missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They loved serving the people that lived in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Bob and Sherrie were world travelers. Their favorite trips were cruises (to Panama Canal and Alaska) and New Zealand. They always loved coming home to loved family, neighbors and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Butterfield, and by grandsons Jordan Butterfield and Robin Maxx Butterfield.
