ROBERT LEE HARRIS
Robert Lee Harris, age 79, departed peacefully on June 6, 2012, in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii, from complications related to pneumonia, while serving as a missionary at the Polynesian Cultural Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Born January 5, 1933, in Chewelah, Washington to Leonard and Grace Hylton Harris. Married Emma Louise Boren on September 17, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a graduate of Rogers High School, Spokane, Washington, and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1955, with a BA in Accounting and an Air Force Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, after four years in the ROTC.
He entered the U.S. Air Force, trained as a jet fighter pilot, and served on active duty until 1960; he then flew with the Utah Air National Guard. In 1967 he earned a Certified Public Accountant license. He later became President and Partner in Doctors Business Management Service. He was active in the Sugar House Rotary Club and served as president, paying many fines for his sense of humor.
He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple, Bishop of the Garden Heights South Ward, and Salt Lake Wilford Stake President. With his wife Emma he served full time missions to Washington D.C. North (2000-2002), China Hong Kong (2003-2004), Church Missionary Department (2005-2007), and Hawaii Honolulu (January to June 2012).
He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Emma, by his three sons, Robert K. Harris (Cyndi) of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., D. Craig Harris (Jenny) of Burbank, CA, and Steven L. Harris (Cindy) of Naperville, IL, eleven grandchildren, Jesse (Brad) Hemenway, Liza (Jose) Grande, Zac (Christie) Harris, Holly (Ben) Johnson, Theo (Rebekah) Harris, Hilary Harris, Rachael Harris, Ben Harris, Abby Grace Harris, Jack Harris and Charlie Harris, and by his eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Leonard Harris, his Mother, Grace Hylton Harris, and his brother, Howard B. Harris.
A viewing will be held at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, on Friday evening, June 15, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and at the Garden Heights South Ward Building, 2220 East Fisher Lane (2935 South), on Saturday morning, June 16, 2012 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Services will be held in the Garden Heights South Ward on June 16, 2012, at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at the Salt Lake Cemetery.
