Robert Martin Horne

Robert Martin Horne died 4/7/12 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born, 1924 the youngest of 11 children of George W. and Rebecca M. Horne. He graduated from West High in 1943, then served in WW II for 3 years. He married Ruth F. Horne Dec. 27, 1945 in the Cardston, Alberta Temple.

He attended the U of U for 3 years studying Art & Color. This helped him in his profession as a Painting Contractor for over 40 years. He trained his 3 sons in his trade and their work is seen throughout the valley, especially in the Salt Lake Temple, the City & County Bldg. and the Joseph Smith Memorial Bldg.

He and his wife enjoyed many travels with family and friends to Europe, Scandinavia, Fiji, Australia, Canada and the U. S. Bob's hobby was gardening and it showed in his surroundings, the neighbor children called his corner lot "Horne Park".

A High Priest, he was a faithful member of the LDS Church. He served in most organizations of the church, having been a Bishop, Stake High Councilman and clerk several times. He and his wife served a two year Central City Mission. Since retiring he has enjoyed working on family histories and genealogy.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, sons David (Kathy), Tom, Dan (Susan) and daughter Diane (Van Jackson), 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cottonwood 4th Ward, 5565 South Neighbor Lane (1610 East). Friends and family can visit Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
