Robert Lowell Morgan — beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and neighbor — passed peacefully at home on September 11, 2025. He has joyfully reunited with many loved ones who have gone before him.
Rob was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 30, 1950, to Audry Louise Kynaston and Rob Holmes Morgan. He enjoyed a happy childhood in Salt Lake City with his four siblings. He loved Westerns, little green army men, spy novels, music, and playing little league baseball, as well as both his mother’s and father’s cooking.
Growing up in a musical home began a lifelong love of and sensitivity to music. Blessed by it throughout his life, Rob sang with a rich baritone voice and became a skilled oboist and English horn player. During his young adult years, he loved performing with the Mormon Youth Symphony and the University of Utah Symphony Orchestra. Music continued to touch, inspire and bless him to the end of his life.
Rob’s sensitivity extended beyond music to spiritual things, first nurtured in his childhood home. After graduating from Skyline High School in 1968 and attending the University of Utah for a year, he chose to serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rob was called to Germany to teach the gospel in the German language in the Central German Mission (which soon became the Düsseldorf Mission). He continued his church service throughout his life as a home teacher/minister, Elder’s Quorum President, High Councilman, and Stake Executive Secretary, but his greatest joy was teaching.
Rob earned a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Utah. During this time, he married Julene Manwaring, whom he had first met as a fellow missionary in Germany. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 2, 1972, and over the years were blessed with four sons and a daughter. He was a wonderful father who played with his children and sacrificed for them as he worked to provide for his family.
If you knew Rob you may have experienced his love of history and geography. This was greatly impacted by having a career he loved as an International Benefits Administrator with DMBA and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He truly loved working with wonderful people here and throughout the world. His work allowed him to travel to at least 49 countries, where he embraced new cultures, people, and cuisines. These experiences deeply enriched his life.
Years after a divorce, Rob was blessed to meet Claudia Tuft through a dear friend. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 10, 1993. That same day, Claudia’s daughter was sealed to them, adding another child to Rob’s family. He frequently
expressed that his family was the reason he fought so long and hard for his health. He was deeply proud of each of them.
If you spent time with Rob, he might have spoken about his kids or grandkids. He may also have shared funny jokes and puns, discussed great food and recipes, shown the latest knife in his collection, or given perspective on a part of history or events in the world. It may have been just as likely that he bore testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he loved with his whole heart. He touched many lives through his individual care for people he met. He helped them feel seen and valued. To those who knew him, he was an inspiration, showing faith, strength, and love in his constant efforts to overcome health challenges. Through it all he continued to teach, serve, and love. He will be tremendously missed.
Rob is survived by his wife, Claudia; daughter Emily Miller (Ryan); son Michael H. Morgan (Denise); daughter Alison Tuft Spencer (Thomas); and grandchildren Morgan Sebaske (Michael), Brooklyn Miller, Tessa Miller, Kate Spencer, and Albie Spencer. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Hicks and Emilie Sheets (Brian), and his brother Richard Morgan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Audry Morgan; his sister Janet; his sons Rob John, Joseph Lowell, and David Leo Morgan; sister-in-law Marie Morgan; and brother-in-law Roger Hicks.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Rob in recent years as his health declined. The love of family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers enriched his life immeasurably.
