Oct 23, 1956 — Sep 2, 2026

Bountiful

Robert “Boogie” Edward Matthews Jr., of Bountiful, Utah, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at the age of 69. He was born on October 23, 1956, to Robert Edward Matthews Sr. and Delores Jean Matthews (Anderson) in Indiana.

As a child, Robert moved with his family to Virginia, where he grew up surrounded by his eight brothers and two sisters. Family was an important part of his life, and he was happiest when spending time with his siblings and loved ones.

Robert later married Cynthia “Cindy” Williams Matthews, and together they had children. He worked for many years as a machinist at Berkley Machine Works & Foundry, where his mechanical abilities and talent for working with his hands were put to good use.

Following his divorce, Robert moved to Utah, where he spent the last 30 years of his life and made a life of his own.

Robert will be remembered with a coffee cup in hand, watching movies, and happiest when spending time with his siblings. He was mechanically inclined, often working on various cars and tinkering with electronics. In 2024, he married Florence Matthews. Not long after their marriage, Robert was diagnosed with lung cancer, which later metastasized. Florence cared for him with devotion throughout his illness, especially during the most difficult days. Robert fought courageously for a year and a half before passing away from the illness.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Delores, and his brothers Dennis and Rickey.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; his son, Bruce; his daughter, Sonja (Nate) Roberts; his two granddaughters; his eight siblings (in-laws); and many nieces and nephews.
