Robert Walter Owens

Dr. Robert Walter Owens, 82, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Sandy, Utah. Born May 2, 1943 to Wesley and Ruby Owens in Ogden, Utah. He was the 4th child of 7. He was married to Cathie Wood Owens.

Bob graduated from Kuna High School near Boise, Idaho. He then went on to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in the Eastern States Mission. It was then split and he was assigned to the Hill Cumorah Mission where he was able to participate in the pageant multiple times. After his mission, he attended BYU and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree. He went on to attend dental school at the University of Nebraska and graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) on May 19, 1972. After he graduated dental school, he joined the Army and spent 2 years in Dugway, Utah as a Captain of the USA Medic department where he served as a dentist. He then opened his own family and general dentistry office in Sandy, Utah where he worked as a dentist for 45 years. He loved his time as a dentist and all the patients he helped over the years. He retired on December 19, 2019.

He married Barbara Ann Hutchings on August 11, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had 7 children, Jeffery, Eric, Gregory, Jonathan, Marie, David, and Jason. Barbara died on July 17, 1990 of cancer. Bob then married Cathie W. Davis on March 21, 1997 in Sandy, Utah. Adding two more children to the family. Robert and Rebecca Davis.

Bob loved supporting his children which included coaching quite a few of their sports teams. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ with all his heart and never wavered in his testimony. He was able to serve in many positions within the church. He loved horses and would offer everyone rides. He was a farmer at heart. Bob said he could not wait to leave the farm, only to have horses, dogs, rabbits, goats, birds, and guinea pigs. He always told Cathie he was going to bring home a buffalo. He loved golfing, traveling, bowling, and gardening. He was very handy in fixing things around the house. He loved reading and learning.

Bob is survived by his wife Cathie and children: Jeffery (Ana), Gregory (Gwen), Jonathan (Amy), Marie (William), David, Jason, Robert, and Rebecca (Guy). 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. Two brothers William Owens and Rodney Owens.

Preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Ruby Owens, wife Barbara, son Eric, Siblings Gloria, Ralph, Gail, and Betty.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am MST on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Telford Ward building (1834 East Creek Road, 7995 S, Sandy, UT 84093). Viewings will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm MST at the Memorial Mountain View Mortuary (3115 Bengal Blvd. Cottonwood Heights, Utah 84121) and on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 10:00am MST - 10:45am MST at the Telford Ward building (1834 East Creek Road, 7995 S, Sandy, UT 84093).
