Roger Elden Howell, 75, passed away April 2, 2011, from an aggressive form of lung cancer, with his caring wife and children at his side. Born November 8, 1935, in Fairview to Maude Fowles and Elden Willis Howell. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He fought courageously with profound dignity for many years with multiple health problems. Roger married his loving wife, Mona LaRae Jorgensen, on June 5, 1954. They have enjoyed 57 memorable years together, having four children, and he was immensely proud of each of them. Roger was a homebuilder for the first 13 years of marriage, including the home he and his family have lived in for over 50 years. He was meticulous tending to the yard and garden. He also spent 28 years at Kennecott Copper and retired as a shop supervisor in 1998. Spending time with his family was a top priority, especially camping, boating at Lake Powell and holidays. He was an avid fisherman and hunter (and golfed in later years), many of which he enjoyed with long-time friends, Richard Perry & Dale Reesor. Memorable travel included Canada, Hawaii, Mexico, Disneyland and Hatteras, NC. He and Mona spent several retirement winters as snow bunnies in Yuma, AZ. They left Salt Lake City in a truck and camper that first year and returned home in a 34' motor home. Roger is survived by his wife, Mona LaRae Jorgensen Howell, his children: Russell Roger Howell (Deborah), Denise Howell Newman (David), and Patricia (Tish) Howell. 5 grandchildren: Amanda Dodge, Jade Rae Newman, Chase Logan Newman, Michael Thompson and Tawnya Osborn. 5 Great Grandchildren. He was the oldest of 7 siblings, having 2 brothers and four sisters; Ronald Howell (Vada), Marjorie Burnside (Larry), Carol Thompson (Mike), Vangie Walker (Dean), Wayne Howell (Gail Anne) and Patsy Schouten (Larry). Roger is now with his young son, Kenneth J. Howell, and loving parents, Elden and Maude Howell, who preceded him in death.
