Roy James Howard Sr., age 88, passed away on July 31, 2026, in Holladay, Utah.

Roy was born on June 18, 1938, in Holladay, Utah, to Newell Enos Howard and Mary Naomi Russell Howard.

On January 17, 1969, Roy married the love of his life, Betty Lou Hodges. Together they shared many years of marriage and built a family filled with love.

Roy is survived by his children, Roy J. Jr., Viola Mary, Andrew James, and Melissa Ann, his honorary son, Kyle Shaner; three grandchildren, Nichole Ann Griffiths, Eric Brandon Besendorfer, and Shayla Dawn; along with extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Newell Enos Howard and Mary Naomi Russell Howard; by his wife, Betty Lou Hodges Howard; his brother Russell Howard; his sister Susan; one grandson Braeden; along with several uncles, aunts, cousins, and a number of close friends.

Family was the center of Roy's life, and he will be remembered for the love he shared with those closest to him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Roy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 10 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, followed by a graveside service at 11 AM. 

A luncheon will be held at Jordan View Ward 1165 2320 S, West Valley City, UT 84119 following services.
