Roy Lin Richards

March 7, 1947 — January 26, 2026

Roy Lin Richards, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, 78, slipped peacefully away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, after enduring a month-long stay in the ICU due to complications of blood infections. Lin was born in Murray, Utah, at the Cottonwood Maternity Hospital on March 7, 1947, to Evan Clark Richards and Jennie May Eckman Richards.

Lin enjoyed a wonderful childhood living in Granger, Riverton, and on a small dairy farm in West Jordan. Lin attended Monroe Elementary, Riverton Elementary, and West Jordan Elementary, as well as West Jordan Junior High and Bingham High School. He was a proud graduate of the class of 1965. In high school, Lin enjoyed being a member of the Miner football team. He loved sports of all kinds, but especially loved football and basketball. His favorite pastime was watching football. He could rattle off stats on every team, every player, and every coach.

After high school, Lin was called to serve a mission in the Alaska-Canadian Mission. He loved his mission and was able to work primarily in beautiful British Columbia. Upon returning from his mission, Lin enrolled for a semester at BYU. He later earned a meat-cutting certificate and worked as a meat cutter for several years. He was employed by Jordan School District for about 35 years as a school custodian and on the custodial maintenance crew.

Lin loved gardening and landscaping. He followed in his Grandpa Eckman’s footsteps with his love for iris, peonies, and roses, and maintained a well-manicured yard. He also kept a beautiful vegetable garden. Lin earned a certificate as a Master Gardener and spent some time with the landscape crew at the Jordan River Temple.

In Lin’s journal, he stated, “I would like to thank my family for everything, but especially for their love. I’m thankful for friends and neighbors for their thoughtfulness. I hope that I will have someone at my funeral, so they won’t have to hire anyone to come (he had a great sense of humor). I love each of you very much and should say that more often. Until we meet on the other side of the veil, you brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, Roy Lin Richards.” Many remarks have been made by friends and family about his kindness, friendliness, and gentleness.

Lin is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Richards, Connie Bell (Mike), and his nieces and nephews, Heidi Storper (Pete), Steven Schneider, Heather Heiner (Dakota), Jeffrey Parry (Hannah), Tristan Parry (Liz), Brian Bell (Kayt), and Chelsie Drake (Jon), and twelve great nieces and nephews as well as many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother and sisters, Karen Schneider (Peter), and Marlene Parry (Michael), nieces, Lindsay Ann Bell, and Karry Ann Schneider.
