Royal Barlow Simpson

Beloved husband, father, grandfather Royal Barlow Simpson passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023 at his home in Taylorsville. Born August 20,1947 in Salt Lake City, UT to Erma and Barlow Emanuel Simpson. He attended Granite High School and graduated with a BA in Biology from the University of Utah. He married the love of his life Leslee Ann Bradford in 1970. He served as a sanitarian for the Tooele County Health Department for several years, before moving to the Utah Department of Health where he worked for over 25 years. Following his retirement he worked for the Granite School District as a junior high classroom aid supporting students with disabilities.
Royal loved planning vacations, outings, and events for his family. It was important to him that they experienced other places, cultures, & museums. He spent time researching and planning family adventures. Often in the evening he could be found sitting on his back porch listening to music or NPR on his radio. An avid reader and seeker of knowledge, he enjoyed debating politics, history, faith and the meaning of life with anyone. He loved serving in the church and held several positions and fulfilled a service mission with his wife.
Royal is survived by his wife Leslee Ann Simpson, sister Dorthy Taylor; daughters Julie Simpson and Melissa (Joel) Palmer, and grandson Galen Palmer.
Preceded in death by his mother Erma Simpson, father Barlow Emanuel Simpson, and brother-in-law Ronald Taylor.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123 with a viewing the same day from 9:00-10:45 a.m. Interment at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
