Ruby P. Gates, 96, died on October 1, 2026, in Holladay, Utah.

She was born on February 19, 1930, in Fremont, Utah, and was educated at Wayne High School and Snow College. In her younger years, she played high school basketball, a reflection of the energy and competitive spirit that remained with her throughout her life.

Ruby built a life marked by steady work and determination. She worked as an accounting clerk at Eimac and Granite Furniture, served as a hostess at Bratten’s Seafood Grotto, and was among the first airport security workers in the 1970s. Her strong work ethic was evident in the fact that she once held three jobs at the same time.

She also found great enjoyment in the people and pastimes she loved most. Ruby was a devoted sports fan who especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren compete and following the old Utah Jazz. She also liked playing cards and crochet. Those who knew her will remember her amazing sense of humor, generous wit, and the lively presence she brought to everyday life.

Ruby was survived by her sons, Kevin P. Gates (Shannon) and Keith W. Gates (Deanna); her grandchildren, Corilyn Hyland (Wayne), Ryan Hyland (Terrie), Chanel Gates, Malone Gates (Aubree) and London Gates; four great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Jacque G. Hyland, her grandson, Phillip Marshall Gates and Phillo E. Gates (divorced).

Ruby will be remembered for a life of hard work, humor, and deep enjoyment of family and sports. Her generous wit and sense of humor will be missed.
