Ruby Ranck Haskins, age 88, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ruby was born November 16, 1922, to Carl Peter and Abbie Stout Ranck in East Millcreek, where she was raised and spent her entire life.
She married Frederic James Haskins on February 2, 1946, in Ely, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Ruby was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Millcreek 1st Ward, where members of the Ranck family have attended continuously for 159 years. She served in many callings in the Primary and Relief Society.
Ruby and Fred started bowling one night a week in the 1950's. From that point on Ruby became an active participant in many bowling leagues. She served on the board of the Salt Lake City Bowling Association, and 25 years on the Utah State Bowling Association. The last 15 years she served as President, during which time they hosted the National Bowling Tournament. She loved the bowling world and traveled extensively to attend national conventions.
Ruby is survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie (Stuart) Buehner, David Haskins, and Megan Haskins; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Maudie Strode; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Thomas William "Bill" Haskins; and 7 siblings.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the East Millcreek 1st Ward, 2702 East Evergreen Ave (3435 South). Friends and family can visit Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
