A child of God
Waited bravely and patiently for God the father’s loving arms to take her to heaven, to join her husband Gilbert Valdez of 72 years (married March 5, 1950); her parents Ben and Rumalda Martinez; brothers Alex and Lloyd; sisters Nickie, Liz, and Esther, as well as many Aunts Uncles, Cousins, and friends.
She is survived by her children, Gail (Louie), Dona (George), Betty (Rick), Jean, Robert (Myrna), Kristie (Matt), and Craig; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
During her life adventure, she loved to garden. She had the greenest of thumbs and could make anything grow. She liked sewing, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, travelling, and also collecting rocks, driftwood and shells. She just loved being outdoors. Helen also loved to volunteer and loved people she met through Legion of Mary and the SL Division of Youth Corrections where she volunteered clergy services. Mom worked for the Hot Shops at Little America, Holy Cross Hospital, and she was a cake decorator at Mayfair/Safeway stores. She also worked for American Express and as a bookkeeper for the family businesses. She loved singing in the choir at St. Vincent De Paul, and her last parish she belonged to was St. Peter and Paul.
The family would like to thank Dr. Iqbal and Valeo Hospice for all of their loving care (Marie, Kanani, Dave, and Camille). You are all wonderful.
Mass will be said at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, in a couple of weeks. Currently there will be no other services.
