Russell Merlin Bateman Shields, our beloved Brother, Father, Grandfather and Uncle, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2013, in Salt Lake City, He was born to Russell Thompson Bateman and Gladys Eliza Dowdle Bateman on August 4, 1948 in Paris, Idaho. Merlin was later adopted by Grant Lynn Shields when Gladys remarried.
Merlin served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1971. He loved and cared for his children and was a master mechanic, fixing cars for all his family and friends.
Merlin is survived by: his children, Merlin Brent Shields and Wendy Shields; 10 grandchildren; his sisters, Ruth Bateman, June Hatch, Elizabeth Kay Butler, Laura Jane Shields and brother William Mark Shields.
Merlin’s loving and caring nature touched all our hearts. Our love goes with Merlin to his peaceful place with his family that have passed before him. Interment: Bloomington Cemetery, Bloomington, Idaho (Bear Lake)
