Ruth W Davis

Jan 7, 1932 — Aug 12, 2026

Ruth W. Davis, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Middleton, Idaho, at the age of 94.

Ruth was born January 7, 1932, in Hinckley, Utah, to James Arthur Woodall and Edna Slaughter Woodall. She was the fifth of seven children and grew up during the Great Depression. At nine years old, her father moved to Salt Lake City for work, followed shortly afterward by her mother, while Ruth remained in Hinckley with her 14-year-old brother. The two eventually moved to Salt Lake City together, where Ruth began building the life that would eventually lead her to meet her husband, Richard “Dick” Davis.

Ruth and Dick married on March 6, 1950, in Salt Lake City and shared 71 years together. They spent most of their married life in Holladay, Utah, where they raised their seven children. In 1959, their family was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Ruth was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent her life serving her family, church, and community. She held numerous callings, loved attending the temple with Dick and their friends, and made countless baby blankets for children in her ward. She was an accomplished cook, seamstress, quilter, gardener, and crocheter, and was known for her homemade donuts, fudge, and many other treats. She loved Christmas, good books and movies, road trips, time with friends and family, and the simple pleasures of good food, chocolate, and Diet Coke. For Ruth, service was one of the greatest ways to show love, and she spent her life putting that belief into practice.

Ruth and Dick later made their home in Middleton, Idaho. After Dick passed away in 2021, Ruth treasured visits from her family and loved having them around her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her daughter, Linda Sue McDaniel; her great-grandson, Jameson Johns; and five of her siblings. She is survived by her sister Bonnie (Lyle) Taggart, children Sheryl Sheafor, Kathy Johns, Nancy (Bob) Tuttle, Rick (Angie) Davis, Shauna (Mike) Knowles, and Richard (Kerra) Davis, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
