Ruth Mae Hill, age 101, passed away on November 26, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on September 3, 1924, in Paris, Bear Lake County, Idaho, to Henry Fox and Ella Mecham Fox.
At the age of 17, Ruth moved to Ogden, Utah, to seek employment during World War II. It was there that she met the love of her life, James LaVere Hill. They were married and made their home in Kearns, Utah, where Ruth lived for more than 75 years.
Ruth was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. Her service included Relief Society President, Relief Society Secretary under numerous presidents, Sunday School teacher, Primary teacher, Primary President, Primary Secretary, and Visiting Teacher. She found great joy in serving others and strengthening those around her.
During the war, Ruth worked as a secretary at a bullet manufacturing plant. After the war ended and the plant closed, she was employed as a bookkeeper for American Can Company until her marriage to James. Later, after settling in Kearns, she worked at Bird's, a local hamburger restaurant. When the restaurant closed, Ruth devoted herself to raising her four children, caring for her husband, and creating a loving home. Later in life, she lovingly cared for one of her grandchildren.
Ruth had a passion for gardening and crocheting and found great happiness in spending time outdoors. She and James enjoyed taking their children on camping trips, where Ruth especially loved finding a cool stream to soak her feet in. After their children were raised, Ruth and James enjoyed traveling with friends and making lasting memories together.
In her later years, Ruth developed a love for shopping and taking car rides. All someone had to do was ask, "Mom, do you want to go?" and she was ready. It didn't matter where the destination was. She simply loved being out and about. She would often sit by the front window, watching and waiting for whoever was coming to pick her up. She was ready to go!
Above all else, Ruth cherished her family. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. Their visits brought her great joy.
The last three months of Ruth’s life were a pure living hell for her. Her family surrounded her with love and tried to make her as comfortable as they could.
Ruth is survived by her children, Ron (Kathy) Eliason, Paul (Sue) Hill, Glen Hill (Becky Brennon), and Shauna (Jeff) Ericson; nine grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James LaVere Hill, and her grandson, Joshua Hill.
