Our mom and grandma, 'Grandma Honey', Ruth V. Moeller Shurtleff passed away on July 2nd in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on June 17, 1924 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Helmuth and Dora Moeller. She married M. LaVar Shurtleff January 10, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple.
'Ruthie' grew up in Milwaukee, where she did some modeling, enjoyed tennis and diving and worked as a window designer for a local department store. When she met 'Var', they moved to Salt Lake City where they lived in the same house for 57 years. Ruth loved to do yard work, garden, and watch the wild birds. She dearly loved the many years she served as a Jr. Sunday School Coordinator in the Canyon Rim Ward. She was also an accomplished seamstress and won numerous awards at the state fair for her knitting and needlework.
She is survived by her daughters, Dory Markling (Jerry), Judy Marquiss, and son, Scott Shurtleff (Tracy); 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband 3 months prior to their 60th wedding anniversary, and by her parents, Dora and Helmuth Moeller as well as her two brothers, Leslie and Helmuth Jr.
The family wishes to thank Creekside Hospice and the entire staff of Marvel Manor, who treated her with compassion, unending love and respect.
