Samuel Ross Balderas
Age 76
Beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully after battling with Parkinson’s on January 30, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on April 6, 1947, in Salt Lake City Utah to Eduardo & Rhea Ross Balderas. Sam was the youngest of five children. He attended schools within the Sugar House area and graduated from South High School. After graduation, he joined the Army Reserve where he served his country.
Sam served an LDS mission in the Western Canadian Mission. After serving his mission, Sam enrolled in the University of Utah. While attending the University of Utah he met his wife, Christine. They were married on May 25, 1972, in the Salt Lake Temple.
In his early years, Sam enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and watching University of Utah football. He also enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and playing the clarinet. One of his many passions in life was his love for jazz music, and his love for his family. Sam always enjoyed his sweets after dinner especially his fondness for donuts, ice cream and Diet Coke.
Sam was an excellent provider for his family and worked very hard throughout his life. He always understood the importance of providing his family with a memorable Christmas every year. Sam loved going on vacations with his family and making memories with his children. A few of his favorite places he loved to vacation consisted of any National Park, and Disneyland.
One interesting fact that not a lot of people knew about Sam was he worked at Fort Douglas for twenty years where he traveled frequently and was able to visit forty-nine U.S. states.
He is survived by his wife Christine (married fifty-one years) his seven children: Brett (Kristen), Rylan, Brandon (Tabitha), Heather (Tony), Tyler, Vanessa (Matt), and Aleisha and his ten grandchildren; sister Annamarie, brother Dan.
He is preceded in death by his parents his sister Marta and brother Bob.
Christine and family would like to thank the team at Valeo Hospice for the excellent care they provided Sam. Especially, aide Marie and nurses Kate and Kanoni that mostly cared for Sam over the last 2 years.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the LDS chapel at 6030 South Prairie View Drive Taylorsville, Utah.
