Scott Larry James Jr.

Scott Larry James, Jr. passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023, surrounded by his family as he ended his battle with late-stage Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on August 4, 1947 in Farmington, New Mexico to Scott Larry James and Ella Leurn Cluff. He is the oldest of four children.
As a child, Scott loved to explore the desert and enjoyed the outdoors, which continued on throughout his life. If you know Scott, you know he’s a big prankster. This started at an early age and is something he never outgrew. His mischievous and meticulous demeanor led him into the perfect job for the US Army in weaponry and booby trap implementation and deactivation. Scott served in the Army from June 1968 to June 1970 and was honorably discharged as a Specialist E-4.
Scott married Vicky Lynn Adamson in 1968 and had three children, Beverly, Ryan and Nicholas. Scott and Vicky divorced in 1980.
Scott married Karen Lyons in 1981 and had a son, Matthew and along with Karen’s daughter, Melissa, created their blended family.
Scott worked his whole career as a draftsman and quality control manager for PM Engineers for approximately 40 years. In his retired years, he found enjoyment in taking care of his dogs, Skipper, Scout and Finn. He also always had a project or two in the works, to which he would enlist one of his kids to hold the flashlight so he could see better.
Scott is survived by his wife, Karen, his 5 children Beverly James Ostler (Bradley Garner), Melissa Gonzalez-Glade (Matthew), Ryan James (Stephanie), Nicholas James (Yukiyo Kaneko), and Matthew James (Krista), 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, brother Dennis “DJ” James (Kathy), sister Marilinn Seline and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Michael James.
Viewing services will be held Thursday, August 31st, from 6 to 8pm at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah. Another viewing will be held prior to the services on Friday at the church from 10-10:45 AM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 1st at 11am at South Cottonwood Stake, 1250 East 4800 South, SLC, Utah. Interment will follow at Murray City Cemetery.
