Scott Whitaker Royall

March 19, 1950 — March 13, 2026

Salt Lake City

Scott Whitaker Royall, born March 19, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on March 13, 2026 surrounded by his family after courageously battling ALS for nearly three years.

The son of Robert and Carolyn Royall, they instilled in him a strong foundation of faith, obedience, and hard work. Raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Scott remained a faithful follower of Christ throughout his life. As a young man, Scott served a Mission in Northern California. His faith guided the way he lived and raised his family. He taught his children to love the Savior and instilled in them the principles and values that continue to guide their lives today.

Scott was raised on James Island, near Charleston, where growing up on the water shaped many of the passions that would remain with him throughout his life.

A lifelong lover of the water, Scott enjoyed boating, sailing, and skiing. Growing up on the South Carolina Coast gave him a deep appreciation for the ocean, and he passed that love on to each of his children. More than anything, he enjoyed teaching—making sure his kids knew how to be skippers, mechanics, and carpenters like he was.

Scott was an exceptional craftsman and mechanic who could build or fix just about anything he set his mind to. One of his life’s great joys was working to restore his airplane and pursuing his passion for aviation as a pilot. Few things made him happier than spending time at his airplane hangar working on his beloved Mooney Mite airplane.

Scott’s ideal day would begin working on projects at “the hangar” and end at home surrounded by family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren—though he might occasionally request a reduction in the noise level. Among his many talents, was a special gift with babies and was affectionately known in the family and his Ward as the “baby whisperer,” able to calm even the most upset infant with ease. Enjoying a bowl of ice cream and watching the Discovery Channel was a favorite pastime.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Royall, and their four children: Brock Royall (Jenna), Blake Royall (Amy Jo), Cameron Royall (Lindie), and Rebecca Grider (Spencer). Scott was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren, with one more on the way, each of whom brought him great joy.

Scott’s life was defined by his faith, his love for his family, and the many things he built, repaired, and passed down to those around him. The lessons he taught—about faith, hard work, craftsmanship, and love of family—will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the knowledge that through the Savior and the promises of the gospel, families can be together forever.
