Seth Tulio Ontiveros age 90, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, surrounded by his wife, children, family and friends at Creekside Assisted living facility in Bountiful, Utah.
Seth was born on December 24th, 1935, to Jose and Elena Ontiveros in Colonial Dublan, in the state of Chihuahua Mexico. As a young man, dad experienced tragedy early in life when his father died in an industrial accident thus leaving his young mother with 2 small children to run their family farm growing crops and raising chickens. After his chores were done, he would spend time outdoors with family and friends hiking, hunting, and horseback riding in the Sierra Madre mountains. He was very active in sports and played on the High School basketball team and enjoyed music and learned to play the trombone.
At the age of 19, Dad moved to Utah to attend BYU in general studies. A friend from college invited him to attend a function at Barrio Lucero, which was a Spanish speaking ward where he met a beautiful young lady, Carola Gomez, who caught his eye and heart. They later married on June 7th,1956 and were solemnized on April 13, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with 4 beautiful children.
Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed participating in church sponsored basketball and softball teams and attending the many ward activities. Dad served in various callings including Scouting, young men’s organization and Elders quorum. Dad served in the Bishopric as a counselor and was called to serve as the Bishop of the Lucero ward. Dad also served as an ordinance worker in both the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples. Dad had a strong testimony and always felt blessed with such a good life an was always willing to serve his Heavenly Father and fellow man.
Our dad worked as a welder in several fabrication shops and was especially proud of contributing to the steel beams on I-15 overpasses. With his knowledge and welding skills, Dad became an instructor at Salt Lake Community College where he dedicated 30 years of service sharing his craft and shaping the next generation of welders before retiring.
Seth loved the outdoors and taught our family how to hunt, fish, set up camp and appreciate the beauty of “Gods work”. To this day, some of our best memories were made in the mountains or at the lake sitting around the campfire.
After 55 years of marriage to his eternal companion, his “Mi Vida” passed away leaving his heart very lonely. Dad was reacquainted with a family friend, Edna Alba, and eventually married on May 31, 2012, in the Salt Lake Temple. They loved spending time together with friends and family and especially on their road trips. Edna was a loving companion to our father, and we were blessed to have her in our lives. Edna stood by his side until the end. “Adios Mi Amor, hasta que nos volvamos a encotrar”
He is survived by his wife Edna Alba Ontiveros, Felipe Ontiveros (Jackie), Cynthia Monsen, Jose Ontiveros (Cindy) and Raul Ontiveros (Karrie), 14 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by Carola Ontiveros(wife), Lee Monsen (son-in-law) and Derreck Monsen (grandson).
We would like to give special thanks to the staff at Creekside Assisted Living Center, and Ovation Hospice for all of their hard work, patience, and compassion while caring for Seth throughout his stay, and in his final days.
