Seyed Abbas Nazarinia, age 86, passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Born in Rasht, Iran, in the Gilan Province along the Caspian Sea, Seyed carried with him a lifelong sense of gratitude, joy, and connection. From a young age, he developed a love of travel and explored extensively, visiting countries throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. He earned a degree in governmental accounting in June 1971 from the Iranian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Early in his life, he welcomed his first son, Shahram Nazarinia.
Seyed later moved to Tehran and worked at Iran’s Ministry of Finance, where he quickly rose through the ranks. He went on to serve as Financial Affairs Director of Iran’s Moghan Agro-Industry and Livestock Company under the Ministry of Agriculture. In December 1985, he immigrated with his wife and newborn daughter to Salt Lake City, Utah, beginning a new chapter centered on family and opportunity. There, he welcomed four more children and built a life defined by dedication to those he loved. After the passing of his wife, Seyed was faced with the unimaginable challenge of raising five young children on his own in a foreign country.
Seyed’s family was the center of his world and the source of his greatest pride. He was known for the phrases he repeated often – sometimes in jest, other times to support or inspire. He reminded his children - later his grandchildren – again and again, through both words and example, that each of them was “Strong and Powerful.” He believed deeply in the value of education and viewed it as a pathway to opportunity and security, and he instilled that belief in his children through both high expectations and unwavering support.
Seyed was known for his warmth, playful spirit, unwavering positivity, and deep kindness. He brought joy to everyday moments with his expressions, often saying, “Every day is my birthday,” and “I’m not tired, I’m retired!” His laughter was constant and remains one of the defining memories for those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, kindness, hard work and resilience.
He was laid to rest at Memorial Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan Utah 84084 in an Islamic burial with all the rights and honors befitting the life he lived. May his soul rest peacefully reunited with his beloved, Zahra Monir Khamedoost, and countless brothers, sisters, friends, and family members that went before him.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Shahram Nazarinia (Hedyeh), Naz Scott (Sadie and Maggie), Iman Nazarinia (Zahra, Zayden and Zoey), Armin Nazarinia, Hasty Nazarinia and Donya Nazarinia.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 beginning at 3:00 PM at the Sugar House Garden Center located at 1602 E 2100 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84106.
