Shane David Smith

August 19, 1973 — April 6, 2023

Shane David Smith passed away April 6, 2023 in Bellevue, Washington at the age of 49. He no longer suffers from the earthly pain that afflicted his body the last couple of years and now dwells in peace with his father, David.
What a joyous day August 19, 1973 became when Shane was born to David Brent Smith and Elaine George Smith in Wheatridge, Colorado. His long awaited arrival brought joy to grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. As a young boy he joined the Cub Scouts of America and later the Boy Scouts of America and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Many life skills were learned beside his father and other leaders in those scouting years. During his teenage years the family moved to Riverside, California where he graduated from high school. Some family members considered him the crazy new wave kid that listened to cool bands and taught them how to leap off stairs into piles of pillows and bean bags and jump off the patio roof into the swimming pool. He pressed the limits of taking risks and enjoyed life to the fullest, no matter the consequences. If you were around Shane for very long, you might become the brunt of one of his practical jokes. His love for playing jokes on others stayed with him his entire life.
His career began in California when the cell phone industry was in its infancy. His background in real estate had taught him the skills to negotiate leases with cities, municipalities, corporations, and individuals. These leases became the sites for cell phone towers in Utah, Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington. As an independent contractor, he provided his service and knowledge to T-Mobile, Version, and Sprint.
He lived in Washington for over 20 years and fell in love with Sandra Michelle Karlek. They were married in Costa Rica in February 2018. Along with Sandy came a ready-made family; Beyza and Adam Karlek. Oh, and don’t forget his dog, Willis, his trusty companion.
Shane’s love of traveling led him on many adventures throughout the world. This is the one thing he enjoyed most in life. He always had plans for another trip whenever one would talk with him. Just last January he and Sandy went to Tahiti and Bora Bora.
Shane is survived by his wife, Sandy Karlek; children, Beyza and Adam Karlek; and his mother, Elaine Smith.
