Shannon (Shane) Lester Parks

Shannon (Shane) L. Parks cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 from complications due to diabetes. Shannon was born in Kingsport, Tennessee to Lester Miles Parks and Eutaw Regina Montgomery. He was the youngest of six children.

His family moved to Salt Lake City, Avenues when he was 7 years old.  He enjoyed growing up there as a young boy.  The family moved to the Millcreek area where he started his senior year at Olympus High School and graduated in 1956. He continued his education at UofU and BYU.  He served an LDS mission in Oslo, Norway and then in the Eastern States Mission, serving in the Upstate New York area 1958-1960. He married Diane Routh in 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. He later served with his wife in an Inner City, Salt Lake Mission.

Shannon was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved to coach Little League, County Rec, and Church Ball coaching many of his teams to championships. Shannon enjoyed singing, once performing in a high school assembly and often during his mission. He loved spending time with his 21 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

He worked as an insurance agent for several years but spent most of his years working in Retail Sales Management for ZCMI Men's Department and then Macy's at the Cottonwood Mall.

After retiring, he liked golfing weekly with his golf buddies, Larry and Marv. He once told his daughter that heaven to him would be playing golf with plenty of treats along the way.

He is survived by his wife Diane Parks, and 6 children: twins, Danny Parks ( Ilauna) Sherry Memmott, (Joel), triplets, Shawn (Cindy), Jay (Christy) and Garron and a single son Scott (Carma) Parks; sisters Wanda Gottfredson, Bea Christopherson, and Reva Boren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 10:00am at the Canyon Rim 1st Ward, 3000 South Grace Street (3100 East) Friends may visit with family on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East and at the church on Thursday from 9:00am-9:40am prior to services.
