Sharon “Sherrie” Leone Leonard Butterfield

January 17, 1940 — January 4, 2023

Sharon “Sherrie” Leone Leonard Butterfield was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 17th, 1940 to Heber Elwood Leonard and Melva Marsden Smith Leonard. She returned with excitement to their presence in Heaven on January 4th, 2023 at 7:55 am. Sherrie was surrounded for days by many loving family members.
Sherrie’s childhood was so rich with the love of her Mother, Father, and Grandmother Emelyne Mardsen Smith, and her great grandmother Alvina Harker. She met her sweetheart on Halloween 10/31/1954.
Sherrie’s greatest success was her large family in Christ.  She taught, “I testify of Jesus Christ.” She shared the music, mountains, flowers, pets, and sunrises and all the beauties of the earth to teach that we can always feel Heavenly Father’s love. Sherrie was an example of service for many years in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and as a missionary at the Brighton branch in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints- the highlight being the years she served as Stake Relief Society President in the Salt Lake Wasatch Stake. Her spirituality, leadership, creativity, and her willingness to love others was a shining example. She was a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple for 17 years – “ The temple is beautiful. There are miracles that happen there. The temple has the most beautiful people in the world. The lord takes your hand and he says, “Come and be with Me.”” Quote from Sherrie 1/1/22 at the annual family testimony meeting).
Everyone that entered Sherrie’s home felt the Spirit of the Lord. Through her generous loving spirit, her eloquent decorating, and her open heart she welcomed each person who entered as if they were family. This made for the perfect atmosphere to teach and share the Book of Mormon with a study group weekly in her home for 22 years.
Sherrie cared for Melva and Elwood, her beloved parents, in her home until their passing. The happy host of Heaven and our loving family praise and honor you our amazing wife, mother, and grandmother! She leaves behind:
Husband Robert David Butterfield, daughter Katherine & Mark Clayton, son David & Sharon Butterfield, daughter Suzanne &Kimball Bitter, son Robert Brad & Amy Butterfield, daughter Emmalyn & Michael Wirth, 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and a great, great grandson.
