Shefford H Thompson passed away February 22, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah just short of his 86th birthday. He was born to Ada Sorenson and Harvey Thompson on February 25, 1925 in Ephraim, Utah. He moved to Salt Lake in 1941 but his heart always remained in Sanpete County.
Shefford loved the Lord. He served an LDS mission to Louisiana and continued to serve faithfully in the church throughout his life. He married his sweetheart Shirlee Betts-Olmsted in 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised 4 children and have been blessed with 25 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Shefford graduated from the University of Utah and worked as a pharmacist and store manager until he was 71. He loved to golf and his favorite foursome was often the first group on the greens at the University of Utah golf course. Trolling at Strawberry or Deer Creek Reservoir was a favorite and there probably isn't a lake or stream in Utah that he hadn't dropped a line into. He also loved hunting trips with his family and friends. His children knew they were top priority when he started taking them on the annual archery hunt. With 4 kids in tow, he never again got close enough for a good shot. Besides the archery hunt, favorite family vacations included numerous trips to Yellowstone and camping near a fishing hole.
At home Shefford could always be found fixing the cars or working in his garden. Many people have reaped the rewards of his hard work with a well running car or a bag of apples. He will be remembered as a man of great faith who was humble, gentle, and tender hearted. He had a dry sense of humor and often shared funny or adventurous tales from his life.
He will be missed by his wife, daughters, Linda (Michael) Murray, Kathy (Brent) Adams, Dianne (Ham) Omana and son Eric (Jenni); brother Jay and Sisters Luana Cowan and Charlotte Huntsman.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Canyon Rim Stake Center, 3051 South 2900 East. Friends and family can visit Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
