Sheri Doty

February 19, 1949 — June 24, 2025

Sheri Lynn Boyer Doty passed into the next portion of her eternal life June 24, 2025. She had suffered from different cancers as well as from the effects of various chemotherapies. She, we know, is at peace in the arms of loved ones who passed before her as well as her Lord.

Her parents were Philip Othello Boyer, Jr. and Marian Edith Child, both deceased. She was born February 19, 1949, in SLC. She has two brothers, Ronald Boyer (Margo) and one stillborn brother, Daniel

As a young girl, Sheri took dance lessons with the fabled Virginia Tanner Children’s Dance Theatre. As a teen, she spent a short time as a model with the LaVoy’s clothing company. She was beautiful both inside and out.

She also served as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern Australia Mission.

She received a BFA from the University of Utah with a painting and drawing emphasis in 1972. She was a faculty member of Salt Lake Community College and Peterson’s Art center where she taught Drawing, Painting and Design.

Sheri’s paintings have earned her awards in regional, national and international art exhibitions and invitational shows including purchase awards and permanent museum collections. Sanford Corporation has used her artwork to showcase its PRISMACOLOR colored pencil product line internationally. Sheri is a charter member and signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. Sheri’s artwork is published on book covers, in newspapers, periodicals, and exhibit catalogues.

She was an accomplished portrait artist whose work expresses not only the likeness of her clients but also their lifestyle.

Her favorite subjects to draw and paint were always her family who include her husband Richard Doty, children, Jeremiah Kephart, Michael Doty, Jonathan Doty Zarnofsky (Jessica), Esther Doty, Joseph Doty (Rachael) and grandchildren (Riley, Theya and Nathan). They are the loves of her life.

To do the portraits she took “my own photographs as resource material employing a variety of ways to recreate what the human eye sees. My paintings are not exact reproductions, but an interpretation of life from my view as an artist.”

“Thirty years of study and experience in this field has taught me that talent isn’t the reason for success in any endeavor. The keys to success are desire, perseverance and determination. But most of all, I depend on Father in Heaven’s influence. When I pray about what I paint, I can feel His help and guidance.”

It is that love of the Lord she tried to pass onto her family, extended family and those she taught both art and the gospel as a primary and Sunday school teacher.

We do and will miss that wonderful spirit and we know she will be watching out for each of those she loves.

God blessed us, and we look forward to being with her again in the next portion of our lives.
