Cheryl “Sheryl” “CJ” Lynn (Midgley) Jacketta, age 76, passed away at her home in North Salt Lake, Utah, of natural causes on April 11, 2025. She was born on February 15, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Beatrice (Newberry) and LaMar Midgley. She grew up in Bountiful where she graduated from Bountiful High School. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while growing up.
She married Gary “Jake” Jacketta in 1971 (later divorced) They lived in North Salt Lake when they were blessed with a son, Spencer “Jace”. They would often enjoy outings with close friends, The Hatch’s, running the water rapids in an inflatable raft while fishing along the way. She worked as a parts runner for Clark Trucking, then for Cole National in the optical department. Throughout her life she loved to engage family, relatives, and friends, especially the younger ones in all kinds of games as a method of interacting with each other.
Before her mother’s death the two of them would often be seen traveling throughout the western part of USA and especially in the mountain areas of the West. They enjoyed camping and fishing in her mother’s 4x4 drive motorhome allowing them to explore many places that were less traveled.
Cheryl later moved to the San Diego area near her Aunt Betty (Newberry) Colianna. In California she worked for Procter and Gamble, and also the San Diego Park and Recreation Center helping youth and seniors with outdoor activities.
Upon retirement she relocated to Show Low, AZ to enjoy a slower pace of life. While there she continued to be involved with local groups and activities. She later moved back to North Salt Lake, UT to be near family and friends. She enjoyed rekindling old friendships along with engaging new ones. In her life those who knew her would agree that she definitely marched to the beat of her own drum. She could also stretch a dollar like no one’s business. In Utah she enjoyed hosting a weekly game of cards with friends. Over the years, she has dealt with some health issues that affected her and was recently diagnosed with frontotemporal lobe dementia.
She was preceded in death by her mother Beatrice Thomas; her father LaMar Midgley; her brother Bruce Midgley; and niece Amber Lynn Midgley Day and nephew Jared David Midgley.
She is survived by her son Jace (Danielle); grandchildren Domanic, Matteo, Chiara; her brother David L. (Manja) Midgley; her stepmother, Kathryn Midgley, and stepsister, Jeannie Hohn; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Per her wishes she was cremated, and her ashes will be interred near her mother in the Graveside Service: Eulogy and Dedication May 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM Memorial Lake View Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah.
