Shirley was devoted to her family and faith, and found her greatest joy in the generations that followed her.
Shirley Broadhead Beck passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 88. She was our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend.
Shirley was born on September 20, 1938, in Heber City, Utah, to Lynn and Mildred Broadhead. As the first of four children, she brought immense joy to her parents and helped pave the way for the close-knit family that followed.
Shirley spent her early years in Heber City, UT, before moving to Park City, UT, where she graduated from Park City High School. After graduation, she returned to Heber City and shared an apartment with her cousin, Ardith, while working at the Kimball Junction Cafe. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Ray Beck, through Ardith. Shirley was just 17 years old when she and Ray met, and after a courtship filled with love and laughter, they were married the day after her 18th birthday, on 09/22/1957, in Reno, Nevada. Family and friends lovingly crafted her wedding dress from cloth napkins, creating a treasured memory that would be shared for generations.
The newlyweds spent their first year of marriage in Deer Valley, UT. After enduring a freezing winter and frozen water lines, they relocated to Kearns, Utah, where they began raising their family. Over the years, they also lived in White City, UT, before settling into their forever home in Salt Lake City, UT, which had once been Ray's childhood home. It was there that they completed their family and built a lifetime of cherished memories. Shirley remained in that home until her passing.
Her kindness, resilience, sense of humor, endearing stubbornness, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.
