Shirley Elzinga Hill Davis
April 17, 1937 — December 16, 2022
Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Shirley Elzinga Hill Davis passed away on December 16, 2022 in Salt Lake City at the age of 85 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Merlin, their sons Randall (Millie) and Parry (Irma), daughter-in-law KayeLynn, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley, the daughter of Anne Elzinga Hill and Randall Howard Hill was born on April 17, 1937 in Salt Lake City. She married Merlin Davis on June 20, 1957 and they raised three sons together. Shirley’s family was very special to her and she loved spending time with them every chance she got. They will miss her dearly.
Shirley was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Merlin served a mission together in Rose Park where they assisted families in need. She also enjoyed serving as a librarian in her ward for over 40 years.
Shirley worked numerous jobs throughout her life. Her last position was with Salt Lake County. She retired after working there for 12 years.
Shirley had many hobbies including crocheting, doing word searches, playing board and card games, and cooking. She was known for making sweet treats, especially her Christmas fudge that she shared with family and friends every year.
She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and son Andy.
Funeral services will be held at Little Cottonwood 5th Ward at 6350 South Rodeo Lane on Tuesday, December 27th at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery.
