Shirley May Koldewyn Wassmer

November 23, 1927 — February 10, 2014

Shirley May Koldewyn Wassmer was born November 23rd, 1927 in Ogden, Utah to John D. Koldewyn and Viola Murray Koldewyn. She was married to Dean L. Wassmer on March 4th, 1948, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Shirley grew up in the Sugarhouse area and graduated from South High School in 1945. She attended the L.D.S. Business College and the U. of U. She worked at Mountain Bell (accounting) and in the Salt Lake County Library System. She served in the Canyon Rim Stake Relief Society Presidency for 14 years. Served as a counselor for 4 ward presidents and was the Ward Relief Society President in the Highland View 2nd Ward. She took great delight in having been a visiting teacher for 66 years. She also served a full time LDS mission at the Family History Library, from 2007 to 2009. She taught in all the church auxiliaries and said she "dearly loved her primary children."

She was a charter member of the Highlanders Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She served as camp captain and made many friends in the P.T.A., the Salt Lake Council of Women and the N.A.L.C. and N.A.P.S. auxiliaries.

She is survived by her loving children, Michelle (Andrew) Erickson, Jon (Debbie) Wassmer, Patricia (Darrell) Wilson, and Sheila (James) Davis, 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and her Wassmer Family in laws, and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.

Shirley delighted in telling her travel adventures. She has visited all 50 states, all 7 continents and has waded in all 7 seas. Her favorite travel memory was usually the last destination, and knowing mom she is probably excited about this new adventure.

Shirley's greatest joys came from her children, books, travel, the symphony, and chocolate.
