Shirley Konopka, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away on November 30, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Shirley was born on January 13, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Robert C. and Genevieve Dougherty. She graduated from East High School and later married Edward R. Konopka on May 3, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church.
Shirley was a talented seamstress and cook, loved to write short stories, paint, golf and play bridge with her friends. She was a member of St. Ambrose Church where she was President of the Altar Society from 1979-80. Informed and intelligent, she had a great sense of humor and wit. She was a wonderful caregiver to her entire family, devoted wife for 62 years and always found the perfect words of encouragement or support for a friend or family member that was not well or needed help. She had the best intuition, always following her heart. Her strength of character made her the pillar of her family. Shirley always focused on the good in her life to find her unyielding peace and happiness.
Shirley is survived by her husband and three children, Ed (Debbie), Cheryl (Ron) Hugie, Ken (Linda), 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two brothers Pat and Bob. She is preceded in death by her parents and two older brothers, Jim and Kenneth.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Cottonwood Place and Millcreek Hospice for their care in her final months.
A family memorial service was held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Holbrook Mortuary.
