Shon Christopher Ekberg

“When I can’t walk away, it’s my time to go.” Chris LeDoux- Scatter the Ashes
Shon Ekberg, beloved son, brother, dad, uncle and friend rode into the sunset surrounded by his family on May 20, 2023 after battling complications from a recent surgery.  Shon blessed our family and all who knew him for 49 years.  He left us too soon.
Shon’s ability to win hearts with his smile, charm and that cute dimple will be remembered by many.  Shon had a gift for making friends easily.  As a youngster, he would disappear in large crowded carnivals with no money and return with armfuls of food, candy and drinks given to him by complete strangers.  Shon was surrounded by many people in his life who enjoyed his company and cherished his friendship.
Shon was a very hard worker.  Highly skilled, he was proud to work as a landscape contractor, sprinkler installer, snow plow operator and many other jobs making the outdoors beautiful.  Through his hard work he blessed the lives of his family and friends.  We express our gratitude to Rubicon Contractors for providing Shon the opportunity to be part of their team and family.
Shon was a simple, meek and spiritual man. His foundation was planted in the gospel of Jesus Christ and provided a path for him to learn and grow.  He served a mission in Los Angeles, CA, serving the Polynesian people with a gentle love only he possessed.  He cherished representing his Savior, Jesus Christ and will be eternally blessed by his service.
Shon endured many challenges throughout his life.  He met them head on,  His resilience, determination and cowboy grit is inspiring.  We find comfort knowing that Shon has finally found peace, and is free physically and emotionally from what he experienced during his life.
Shon is survived by his parents Arlen and Linda Ekberg. Brothers Laif (Chris), Erik (Deanna), Troy (Nicole), and Lane. Children Alyssa, Dustin and Brody,  along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles who adore him. Also important to mention numerous loving friends and co-workers who Shon considered family.  Preceded in death by grandparents Oscar and Naomi Ekberg, Clarence and Opal Williams.
Services honoring Shon will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Whitmore Ward; 6890 South Whitmore Way, Cottonwood Heights, UT.
At Shon’s request there will be no public viewing.
A heartfelt thanks to the medical teams who cared for Shon during his illness, and for the loving assistance given by Memorial Mountain View Estates.  Finally, we are grateful for the care Laif and Chris provided to Shon during the last few weeks of his earthly journey.
Shon, you are forever loved by your family and everyone who knows you.  Your example and testimony will guide all of us until we embrace you again.
