Beloved grandfather, father, brother, son, and friend, Sidney Keith Johnson passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his children on Saturday, September 28, 2024, due to complications from pancreatic cancer at the age of 69.
Sidney was born May 23, 1955, in Colusa, California. He was an energetic and strong child who grew up working in his family’s almond orchard. He was well known for his athletic, musical, and academic accomplishments at Colusa High School from which he graduated in 1973.
Sid served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He received a football scholarship to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and played Tight End and then Defensive End for the Cougars until 1979. Sid married Jeanette Lee on February 14, 1980, in the Salt Lake Temple; they were later divorced.
Sid left BYU to support his young family by working in the oil industry. His advancement as a Drilling Fluids Engineer led him to live in Healdsburg and Windsor, California. He finished his bachelor’s degree at Sonoma State University, majoring in Business Management. Upon his relocation to West Valley City, Utah in 1991, he worked in the construction industry, often as a commercial or residential Project Superintendent. Sid switched back and forth between these physically and mentally demanding careers until his retirement. Sid enjoyed church service, most recently as a high councilor in the Granger West Stake.
Sid loved his five children and twelve grandchildren with his whole heart. He was a great example of kindness, toughness, and faith. Sid was a musician; he sang, played trumpet and guitar, and performed in choirs, symphonies and rock bands. Sid was an athlete and sportsman that was still playing full-court basketball at age 68 and enjoyed collecting, upgrading, and shooting firearms. He also loved homemade ice cream and cooking Southern and Brazilian food. Sid took pride in his hard work and service to others and was concerned with “finishing his chores” even until the end.
Sid is survived by his children Keith (Ashley), Nicole, Hannah (Brett), Sarah (Grant), and Luke (Rachel), and his grandchildren (Clark, Lucy, Luca, Clara, Isaac, Zoey, Eva, Proctor, Leon, Bairett, Xander, and Willow) as well as eleven of his thirteen siblings. Sid is preceded in death by his parents Leon and Iris Johnson, and his brothers Sylvan and Harvey.
Sid’s family wishes to thank the numerous family and friends who enriched his life. He loved you all. The family also wishes to express appreciation for those who provided care for Sid including his children, especially Hannah, as well as Sarah and Keith.
As family and friends may individually prefer, flowers can be sent, or in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to an educational fund for Sid’s grandchildren at:
