Skyler Ross Beckstead

January 8, 1982 — October 26, 2025

Skyler Ross Beckstead of West Jordan, Utah passed away peacefully on October 26,2025 at the age of 43 in his home with his family. While his family mourns the loss of this cherished “angel boy,” they find comfort knowing that Skyler is no longer confined to his early wheelchair bound body and he is running, talking non-stop, and probably learning to dance by his Grandma Little. He is now enjoying total freedom from pain and is rejoicing in a great family reunion in Heaven with loved grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and others who are welcoming him home.

Skyler was born on an extremely cold day on January 8, 1982, he arrived “as a little Heber Creeper” in Heber City, Utah. Born on his due date with no apparent problems, it would take 13 months to begin to realize the extent of his limitations. Because of Sky’s engaging smile for everyone, it was easy to overlook his lack of progress developmentally. His parents realized he needed much more in way of support, so the family moved to Midvale and then to Sandy, Utah. He started preschool at Jordan Valley School and for the next 19 years Skyler loved and entertained everyone with his love of being social and always made friends easily of all ages with his “shining personality.” Three years later Skyler was joined in the family by his brother, Barton (Bart), who quickly became his best buddy, along with his favorite cousin and big sister, Amberlee Jenkins, (Andrus), it would be over 6 years before he was able to have twin sisters, Katelyn and Shelby to love and tease. Outgrowing our tiny house in Sandy, the family moved to West Jordan, Utah where the family continues to reside. Skyler, from the beginning, has been surrounded by loving family, special cousins, nieces and nephew, grandparents and friends at Jordan Valley School, Camp Kostopoulos, and after high school graduation, at Turn Community in Midvale. Everywhere Skyler went he won over everyone, even perfect strangers with his ready smile and engaging personality.

Skyler had a love of everything Disney but especially the princess. Ariel, The Little Mermaid” his very favorite, he would watch the movie, or listen to the soundtrack, thousands of times. He fell in love with her all the more as she came to life at Hale Center Theater, where he met Ariel and Eric and she signed his mermaid pillow! Ariel visited his home on his 39th birthday where he was so shy he wouldn’t even look at her, but she totally won him over and whenever mom had her phone, he would want to watch the video of that special day with his “girlfriend.” Skyler loved his Disney movies, He-Man, GI Joe, Power Ranger, Superman, many of the action hero’s and Anime. Going to the movie theater, Skyler entertained everyone with loud laughs and rocking back and forth in his wheelchair as he fought along with the characters on the screen. Sky loved collection t-shirts of his favorites and always had to wear a hat, of course usually of “Little Mermaid.”

Our Skyler was the “glue” and Joy of our family and lived surrounded by his family as he lived at home all of his life. He made sure we all knew what part of his daily routine each of our responsibility was, he would tease and entertain us even when in pain and being reliant on a trach and ventilator to help him breathe. He will be so missed and know he will now be our “Guardian Angel.”

Skyler is survived by his parents, Steven Ross Beckstead and Margene (Barton), brother, Barton, twin sisters, Katelyn and Shelby, nephews, Darien and Jaiden, nieces, Maisilyn Makalya, and Teegan and their mother, Heather (Norris).

He was preceded by death of his grandparents, C. Garth and Mona (Cox) Barton, Janice (Andrus) Little and Boyd Beckstead, Aunt Tam Madill and Uncle Marlon Andrus.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to all the medical staff and wonderful doctors at the IMC ICU in Midvale, Utah, who provided such loving care to Skyler. His sister, Shelby, who made Skyler a priority as she trained with her mom on the trach and vent and spent countless nights sleeping on the recliner in his room. A special thanks to Lynette Howe, his loving and tender weekly massage therapist, Jalin Harvey, his playful and loving nurse’s aide, Sandy Kochman Durham, his DSPD worker who tirelessly worked to help us with Skyler’s and the family’s needs, Fiona Forrest-Hilebrant along with her Turn Community staff and friends for being Sky’s biggest support at his day program for the last 25 years.
