It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Sondra "Soni" Jane Nielsen Pons, who passed away on October 10, 2026, at the age of 86 in West Jordan, Utah.

Born on August 3, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Soni was the beloved daughter of Guy and Lois Nielsen.

Soni was known for her determination, love of children, and unwavering testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

For several decades, Soni operated a daycare from her home, where she lovingly cared for countless children. Those children and their families became an important part of her life, and she is fondly remembered by many for the kindness and love she shared with them.

Soni's home was a place of refuge and belonging for many. As a young mother raising 4 children of her own, she welcomed and cared for her brothers-in-law's 4 children for 2 years when their parents were unable to do so. Later, when a family friend needed a place to stay, she opened her home once again and treated him like her own family. Soni always found room in her heart and home for those in need.

At an age when many people begin thinking about retirement, Soni courageously chose to pursue a dream of becoming a nurse. In her mid-fifties, she earned her nursing license and went on to serve for many years in the Newborn ICU, caring for infants and supporting their families during some of life's most precious and challenging moments.

As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Soni faithfully served in many callings throughout the years. Though many assignments pushed her beyond her comfort zone, she accepted them willingly and used each opportunity to develop new strengths and deepen her testimony. A recent favorite calling was serving as a Ward Missionary. In this role, she became known for delivering cookies each week throughout the neighborhood and developing relationships with those who needed friendship, encouragement, and Christlike love.

Soni was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Lois Nielsen, and her daughter, Soni Alisa Morrill.

She is survived by her children: Randy Pons; Bryan and Jenne Pons; Curtis and Donell Pons; her son-in-law Rusty Morrill; Denise and Niel Westover; Darrin Pons; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many cherished cousins and friends.

While we will miss Soni, we take comfort in the knowledge that families can be together forever.
