Stanley Morris Jencks

Stanley Morris Jencks, age 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

He was born to Carleton Leon and Barbara Morris Jencks on 13 April 1927 in Redlands, California just 15 months after his brother. He spent his early years in Northern California, where his fondest memories were on a farm at the edge of Lake Britton.

By the time he graduated from high school, he had joined the Army Reserve and was enrolled at the University of Utah, where he met Alice Marilyn Wood. She introduced him to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he was baptized 4 January 1947. They were married that same year on 24 June.

After completing his college degree, he taught junior high for a year in Price Utah, then became a professor at the University of Utah, where he worked until his retirement in 1986. Stan and Marilyn made their home in the Salt Lake Valley and raised five children. They were married for nearly 41 years.

He enjoyed taking trips with the family and in later years, adopted a hobby of woodworking, crafting many pieces of furniture for his children and grandchildren. Three years after Marilyn's death from cancer, he married EuDean "Dee" Anderson on 28 March, 1991, and they spent the next 25 years in sweet companionship, serving as missionaries for the Church in Los Angeles, California, then later as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple.

Survivors include his wife, Dee Jencks, Salt Lake City; his brother Carleton Jencks Jr., Berkeley, California: two sons, Ralph Jencks (Paula Owen), Littleton, Colorado; and Paul Jencks (Lori Harryman), South Jordan, Utah; two daughters Margaret Anglesey (Scott), West Jordan, Utah; and Carol Jensen (Keith), Pocatello, Idaho; 22 grandchildren, and at least that many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; and daughter, Barbara Soulier (Scott), South Jordan.

A funeral will be held Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Garden Heights Ward Chapel, 2220 East Fisher Lane (2935 South), Salt Lake City, with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. that same morning. There will also be a viewing at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E., Salt Lake City, from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2015. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
