Stanley Robert Wells

Jun 5, 1952 — Jul 9, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stanley Robert Wells on July 9, 2026.

Stan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, U.S. Army veteran, and a respected member of the Utah drag racing community. He spent his life building, rebuilding, and tinkering with fast cars. He began racing a Quick 16 Camaro, moved on to a dragster, and eventually competed in the Top Alcohol Dragster class. He was happiest in the garage, solving problems, improving performance, and making things go even faster.

In 2009, Stan married the love of his life, Barbara Wells. Whether at the racetrack, on a camping trip, or traveling together, Barbara was his constant companion, biggest supporter, and best friend.

To those who knew him, Stan was the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone, lend a hand whenever it was needed, and leave every place with a few more friends than when he arrived. He deeply loved and admired the many friendships he built throughout his life.

When he wasn't in the garage or at the racetrack, Stan enjoyed camping, especially trips to Morgan, Utah, building model trains, and traveling with Barbara. He also had a legendary sweet tooth and could never resist a pink sugar cookie, something his family and friends will always remember with a smile.

For over 50 years, Stan worked at Chris & Dick's Hardware, where he built many lasting friendships. Above all else, Stan loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Wells; his children, Scott Wells, Jenn Sprague (Dirk Woodruff), Stacey (Matthew) Truesdell, Jennifer (Richard) Romero, Danielle O'Neil, and Joe O'Neil; his 13 grandchildren; his 3 great grandchildren; his brother, Les (Chris) Wells; his sisters, Susan (Greg) Burton and Cindy Hayes; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Margaret Wells; his former spouses, Colleen and Susan; and his sister, Cheryle King.

Stan's kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and the racing community will be remembered by all who knew him. Though his final race has been run, the finish line is not the end of his story. His legacy lives on through his family, the friendships he cherished, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
