Stephen Cannon Ward

Stephen Cannon Ward, age 75, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in his home.  The day before was spent with his entire family celebrating a grandson's 17th birthday.

Steve was born on September 25, 1939 in Salt Lake City to Joseph Quayle and Grace Cannon Ward.

Steve served an LDS mission in Scotland and graduated from the University of Utah Law School. He had a successful career as an attorney with the Utah State Attorney General's office.

In 1964, he met Diane Hague and they were married on July 31st.  They were blessed with three children, Craig Stephen (Kay Shields) Ward, Stephanie (Ric) Bruce and David James (Rebecca Hansen) Ward and eleven grandchildren, Spencer, Nathan, Josh, Erin, Maggie, Allie, Rachel, Nick, Matt, Lauren and Jacob.

Although an attorney by profession, Steve's real driving force was a family farm in Midway, Utah where he spent much of his time and energy – cutting hay, collecting antique tractors, fixing things and hanging out with his brothers.  He also enjoyed houseboat trips to Lake Powell, snowmobiling in Yellowstone and the Antique Peddler's Fair in Sun Valley.  Other interests included collecting antiques and welding.  He designed a turtle out of an old army helmet that adorns several neighborhood gardens.  Steve could fix almost anything and had at least 2 sets of every tool ever made.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, his sister Abby (Terry) Wagstaff, brothers Jeffrey F. (Susan) Ward, R. Charles (Karma) Ward, and sister-in-law Margo Ward.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jon Q. Ward.

A viewing will be held Sunday, August 16, from 6:00-8:00 at the Garden Heights Ward, 2220 East Fisher Lane (2935 S.), Salt Lake City, and also prior to services on Monday from 9:30-10:30 at the same location.  The funeral will be held from 11:00-12:00.  Interment will take place in the Midway City Cemetery under the direction of Holbrook Mortuary.
