Obituary

“

Sterling was the heart of our family, a source of strength, integrity, wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love.

Sterling F. Henson, age 76, our beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Magna, UT.

While our hearts are saddened by his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. Sterling was the heart of our family, a source of strength, integrity, wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love. He touched countless lives with his kindness and generous spirit, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.

He was born at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 6, 1950 as the fifth child to Willard Alvin Henson and Hattie Mae Sheldon. He grew up in Pacific Avenue in SLC, UT with a family of seven children. His siblings are Alvin, Melvin, Ruby, Marvin, David and Arlene.

He graduated in 1968 from West High School. He received an Associates of Applied Science degree in Electronics from Utah Technical College at Salt Lake. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in the New England States Mission in 1971-1973. One of the highlights of his mission was serving as a guide at the Joseph Smith Memorial. While on his mission, a dear friend from his home town arranged for a young lady to write letters to him. Through those letters, Sterling was introduced to the woman who would later become the love of his life, Sandra Lee Cutler.

Sterling and Sandra were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple May 17, 1974. They have five wonderful children together, Sterling Lee, Tammy Ann, Joseph Lee, David Lee and Benjamin Willard. They established their home in Magna, Utah, where they created a loving environment for their growing family. In later years, their family continued to expand, blessing them with 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, each adding their own joy and light to Sterling and Sandra's lives.

Sterling was a dedicated employee of Mark Steel Corporation for 40 years, having a hand in many construction projects, including the John Atlantic Burr Ship, the Charles Hall Ferry on Lake Powell; the Grand Canyon Skywalk, the Stratosphere, and parts for the original Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios in California, and The Rocket and Turbo Drop at the Lagoon.

He was a do-it-yourself kind of a guy-good with his hands, self-taught and able to figure out how to build or repair nearly everything on his own. He loved woodworking, building many cherished furniture for family members and fabricated two wood-burning stoves. He really enjoyed riding motorcycles and ATV's at his family property in the West Tooele Desert. He loved nature and being outdoors.  His favorite hobby was gardening, he loved working in the soil and planting seeds, watching them grow and found joy in sharing the fruit of his labors with friends and family.

The heart of his personality was his humor and he enjoyed making people laugh. He had an ability to brighten your day and put a smile on your face. He had a firm testimony of the gospel of our Lord and Savior, and he emulated Him in selfless service to others. He loved and valued his family and worked hard to support them in their lives.

Sterling is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee Cutler; his children, Sterling (Lily) Henson of Magna, UT; Tammy (Mark) Halliday of Herriman, UT; Joseph (Yessi) Henson of Stansbury Park, UT; David (Jamie) Henson of Logan, UT; Benjamin (Erika) Henson of Stansbury Park, UT; along with 12 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren Sterling Ryan Henson, Cobey (Hunter Faith) Henson; Jonathan Henson, Amberlee Henson; Serenity Halliday, Bryan Halliday, Jacob Halliday, Caleb Henson, Hope Henson, Joshua Henson, Hailey Henson, Hunter Henson, Jacob Henson, Peter Henson, Brittney Henson, and 1 great grandson Casey Henson

He is survived by his siblings, Marvin Luray Henson, Willard David Henson (Jean) and Arlene Primrose Henson (Floyd Crebs) and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Alvin Henson and Hattie Mae Sheldon and 2 older brothers, Alvin Sheldon Henson and Melvin Lee Henson, and his older sister Ruby Elaine Packer.

Friends may visit with family on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. and on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 9:00 am-10:45 am at Lake Ridge 11th Ward Chapel located at 7825 W. Sharon Drive, Magna, UT. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 7th at 11:00 am at the Lake Ridge 11th Ward Chapel located at 7825 W. Sharon Drive, Magna, UT.
