Robert “Steve” Zabriskie passed away Tuesday, the 6th of May at his home in Holladay, Utah. If you knew Steve, you loved him or respected him for the honest hard-working man he was. Steve was a kind, smart, generous, and selfless husband, father, papa and friend. He was the one that everyone went to for advice.
In 1970, Steve met the love of his life, Cathy McDermaid on a blind date—a chance meeting that turned into a beautiful 55-year marriage. Together they built a life full of love, memories and adventures. They raised 3 children, Chae, Bree and Zak who brought joy to his life. His love only grew as he became a grandfather to Mason, Raelee, Katie and Mackayla. Family meant everything to him and he gave his heart fully to those he loved.
Steve cherished his time at his cabin in Island Park, Idaho, especially fishing on Henry’s Lake with his lifelong friends.
Steve started his career working in construction while attending the College of Southern Utah and University of Utah. He had a drive to be successful and started his first company called Custom Crushing in 1978. His hard work and dedication along with his partner, Tony Pia and his great crew made this a very successful company. This cemented his career in rock crushing and led to his next company Z-Rock. Steve was considered an expert in his field, which led to many consulting opportunities in his retirement. Chances are you have driven on a road that Steve helped build.
Survived by his loving wife, Cathy, daughters Chae Wakefield (Ron), Bree, son Zak (Jamie); grandkids Mason, Raelee, Katie, and Mackayla; sisters, Terry Hamik and Peggy Zabriskie; and many in-laws, nephews, nieces and life-long friends.
Preceded in death by mom, Beverly; dad, Robert; brothers, Mike and David; in-laws Lamar “Mac” and Raelene McDermaid; brother in-laws Scott, Rick and Doug; and many close family and friends.
Come join us and have a drink in Steve’s honor to celebrate his life on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Millcreek, Utah.
