Susan Andersen Hansen

October 9, 1949 — May 13, 2023

Susan Hansen, our amazing everything (wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend) passed away at the age of 73, on May 13, 2023 after a yearlong battle with dementia.
Born October 9, 1949 to Alving and Grethe Andersen in Idaho Falls. She grew up as the oldest child with three precocious (yeah, that’s putting it mildly) younger brothers; Omar, Morgan, and Robin (Rob). Rob put it best when he said “She helped raise us and we helped torment her”. Like so many sibling wars this one blossomed into a love for each brother and they in turn loved and adored her.
Susan married Jens Hansen on December 30, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. Susan is the mother of twelve children Jason (Kim), Lex (Mandy), Marni (John) Tobin, Lara (Shawn) Anderson, Aria (Preston) Wood, Lindsey (Wade) Empie, Grant (Stephanie), Esther (Scott) Hillman, Logan (JaNae), Jordan (Amanda), Deanna (Mike) Rudy, Abigail (Brandon) Meldrum. She is the grandma, mormor, and farmor to 37 grandchildren, three and a fourth great-grandchildren and three grandchildren-in-law.
Susan learned early in life that she wanted to play the violin, which blossomed into a lifelong pursuit. In addition to school bands, she played in the Granite Youth Symphony and as an adult played in the West Valley Symphony.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Susan served faithfully in many callings, both with adults and children. She and Jens served an inner-city service mission for the church, teaching important life skills to the amazing and humble people that she served.
Susan had a burning testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which she was not afraid to share. Her best missionary service was to her children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Simply put, Susan lived her testimony. She was an example of living a good life, which she taught to each of her children and grandchildren. Susan had an unconditional love for those who joined the family, being the best mother-in-law to five daughters-in-law and seven sons-in-law, each of whom owe her eternal gratitude for raising such amazing children.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, all uncles and aunts including her beloved Aunt Mille, and nephew Daniel Andersen.
Survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and brothers.
Jens and the family wish to express gratitude to the professional and caring staff at Carrington Memory Care in South Jordan, as well as Aspire Home Health & Hospice. A very tender thank you to Rachel and Tammie for their sweet care of our loving wife and mother.
