Susan Erdelyan Dietrich

Susan was born on March 9, 1948 and she died on July 15, 2026.

Susan was married to John Dietrich on Aug. 30, 1969 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

Susan grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. She was a gifted artist and was accepted into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago upon graduation from Glenbard West High School. Sue’s father said that she needed a broader education, and she had to attend the University of Illinois for at least two years before studying at the Art Institute. That decision allowed Sue and John to meet as 18-year-old first semester freshmen at the University of Illinois.

Sue and John were married in their senior year of college and she was hired as a Jr. High Art Teacher in Wheaton Illinois upon graduating from the University with honors. Sue went on to build an outstanding Art Department in Wheaton for 7 years, and she also taught ceramics classes at the College of DuPage.

When her first child was born, Sue turned her focus to loving and teaching her own children. Geoffrey (Janene Snyder) Dietrich of Flower Mound Texas, Rebekah (KC) Garner of Sandy Utah, and Deborah (Dan) Rutishauser of Bountiful Utah. Sue’s six grandchildren (Megan, Ben, Mara, Keira, and Taryn Dietrich and Lucy Rutishauser) are the sunshine in her life. It should be noted that Sue received straight A’s on all the craft projects that her kids brought home from school.

Sue and John joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1980, and they were sealed in the Washington DC Temple one year later. Sue’s church service included serving as a teacher and leader in the Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society as well as many years teaching early morning seminary classes. In later years, Sue and John served full-time missions at Church Headquarters in the Temple Department and in the office of the California San Jose Mission.

Upon returning from their mission in San Jose California, Sue was diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment. Despite her condition, Sue made family history research her passion in the ensuing years. During those years, Sue was able to complete 11 books detailing the lives and stories of her ancestry. As her condition later deteriorated into Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease, Sue was residing in Creekside Sr. Living for the year prior to her passing. Her family is deeply grateful for the loving care that Susan received from the staff at Creekside.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Steven Erdelyan and Dolores Johnson Erdelyan of Sun City West Arizona, and her only sibling Janice Erdelyan Isaacson of Cardiff by the Sea California.

Funeral Service will be held at the Bountiful North Canyon Stake Center, 965 E. Oakwood Drive, Bountiful, UT at 11:00 am on Monday, July 27, 2026

Interment will be at Memorial Lakeview Cemetery 1640 E Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, UT.
