Suzanne Phipps

October 30, 1971 — November 29, 2025

Millcreek, Utah

Our beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Suzanne Phipps, passed away on November 29, 2025 due to complications of type 1 diabetes. Suzanne was born October 30, 1971 in Spokane, Washington, the youngest of 8, to Thomas Edison and Ivy Anita Otteson Phipps. Her early years were spent in Spokane. At age 7 she and her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she spent her formative and adult years. She graduated from high school as class valedictorian and then continued on to college at Brigham Young University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin.

She had an incredible intellect and was well-versed in many areas including linguistics, math, chemistry, music, literature, and history—to name a few. Perhaps her most notable skill, however, was her ability to treat everyone she met with sincere kindness, endless generosity and charming, uplifting spirit. Her family was so very important to her, and every member was always welcomed at the drop of a hat into her warm and cozy home. An empathetic and thoughtful conversationalist, she was never short on interesting topics that were always uniquely suited to whomever was fortunate enough to be in her presence. In short, everyone who crossed paths with her completely adored her.

A Christian who studied the teachings of the Bible in great depth, Suzanne is survived by her beloved mother, Anita, her brothers Thomas (Larisa) and Kenneth, and her sisters Cynthia (Frank), Ivy Anne (Ronald), and Natalie. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, and her brothers William Walter Phipps and John Joseph Clark Phipps. She is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews: Anastasia, Desiree, Andrew, Nathan, Christopher, Tiffany, William, Christian, Amanda, Kenneth, Lisa, Carrie, Zachary, Justin, Sadie, Nicholas, Aaron, and Anna, as well as many grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends, all whom she loved dearly.

She also treasured her kitties, Molly, Mabel and Marvin.

"PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.

GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.

PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?

GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.

GANDALF: No. No, it isn't." — J.R.R. Tolkien

"The sea wants to kiss the golden shore The sunlight warms your skin All the beauty that's been lost before wants to find us again We can't fall any further if We can't feel ordinary love And we can't reach any higher, If we can't deal with ordinary love" — U2's Bono
