Sylvia Parker Hunt passed away peacefully at the age of 90 at her Salt Lake City home on May 24, 2012. She was born January 13, 1922, in Joseph, Utah, to James Elbert and Lucina Snow Parker. Sylvia received her teaching degree from the University of Utah in 1967 and taught Spanish at Bountiful Junior High for 20 years. She inspired her students to learn through the use of creative teaching tools, field trips and special outings. After retiring, she continued to work with young people as housemother for the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at the U of U. Sylvia was a source of strength and support for the girls and was always interested in listening to their stories and problems. Sylvia was a cherished mother, grandmother and sister, and a friend to all who knew her. She had a keen interest in meeting new people and learning from their experiences. Sylvia also had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She visited Spain, China and Alaska with her sisters, and also toured Europe, Canada and Mexico. Sylvia had a wholehearted interest in healthful living and nutrition. She loved to take challenging hikes to the lakes near her cabin in Big Cottonwood Canyon, where she spent weeks during the summer and loved to entertain friends and family. Sylvia's cheerful smile and happy disposition endured through her final years, even when her clarity began to fade. Her engaging spirit and thoughtful life were true gifts to each and every one of us. We will miss her deeply. She is survived by her children Stephen (former daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hunt), Suzanne, Jeffrey, Cynthia (James A. Beck); granddaughters Jaymie, Grace and Evelyn; step-son Gregory, his wife Lori, and Greg's children, Marilee, John and Trevor; brother, Faye, sisters, Melba, Joyce, Janice; and long-time companion Duglas Curioni. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband Mack, parents, brother Lynn, and sisters Iris and Margaret. Funeral services will be held at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East in Salt Lake City on Thursday, May 31, at 12:00 noon. Prior to the service, a viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Thursday. Interment: Friday, June 1 at 1:00 pm at the cemetery in Monroe, Utah.
