Theodore “Ted” Gordon Hakala

Theodore “Ted” Gordon Hakala, age 83, died on March 26th, 2023.
Ted was born in Hiles, Wisconsin to Uno and Rose Hakala as their third child, joining his sister Dolores (Dee) and brother Larry.  The family continued to grow to include Gloria, Don, Marty, Ron and Darlene.  The family moved to Utah around 1947.  He married Patricia (Pat) Peterson, May 11, 1961. At the same time, he became the loving father to Carrie, Pat’s 1-year-old daughter from her first marriage.  They soon added to their family – Todd in 1962, Alena (Lena) in 1963, and rounded out by Mark in 1966. They were sealed in the temple on September 20, 1977.
Ted worked at Kennecott Copper Mine for 40 years. He loved his work, but his real love was his family.  Ted was always there for his four children and was a major support to the Hakala family, especially after the early death of his father, Uno in 1968.  His family remembers him as a hard worker, a loving family man, and a generous soul.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pat; his children: Carrie (Justin) Cole, Alena Meadows (aka Lena Newtown) and Mark Hakala; as well 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Gloria and Darlene, and brother Don.
He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Hakala; his parents, Uno and Rose Hakala; and his sister and brothers: Delores Ingles, Larry (Sonny), Ron, and Marty Hakala.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 3, 2023, at the church Ted was part of for the past 40 years – Crescent 5th Ward 1050 E 10600 South.  There will be a viewing at the church on Monday from 1:00 PM until the start of the service. The interment will be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan Utah.
